The gloom of the world is but a shadow. Behind it, yet within our reach is joy. There is radiance and glory in the darkness could we but see – and to see we have only to look. I beseech you to look!
Life is so generous a giver, but we, judging its gifts by the covering, cast them away as ugly, or heavy or hard. Remove the covering and you will find beneath it a living splendor, woven of love, by wisdom, with power.
Welcome it, grasp it, touch the angel’s hand that brings it to you. Everything we call a trial, a sorrow, or a duty, believe me, that angel’s hand is there, the gift is there, and the wonder of an overshadowing presence. Our joys, too, be not content with them as joys. They, too, conceal diviner gifts.
Life is so full of meaning and purpose, so full of beauty – beneath its covering – that you will find earth but cloaks your heaven.
Courage, then, to claim it, that is all. But courage you have, and the knowledge that we are all pilgrims together, wending through unknown country, home.
And so, at this time, I greet you. Not quite as the world sends greetings, but with profound esteem and with the prayer that for you now and forever, the day breaks, and the shadows flee away.

Nathan, I’ll send you some rain if you send me some sun. 😉
That line about cells and tumors…
that’s about someone else… or about you??
I wish… the letter I’m currently writing you would already be finished 🙂
I can appreciate the yearnings expressed here. It made me think of the following song.
‘Tis the gift to be simple,
’tis the gift to be free,
’tis the gift to come down
where we ought to be,
and when we find ourselves in the place just right,
’twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained
to bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed,
to turn, turn, will be our delight
till by turning, turning we come round right.
By the grace of God we continue on. Blessings as you minister in a place that feels strange to you. It is amazing how much difference several years make. I really feel like I have found a niche here, in many ways. That doesn’t mean there are no more questions by any means!
Nathan
I would love to, but you’ld better talk to God about that one. We had just enough rain to dampen the ground early this morning. It has actually been cloudy all day yesterday and today. Our temperatures dropped about 30 degrees in approx. a week’s time. I’m still adjusting to the cool weather.
So that’s where the rain went yesterday!
When I was in my teens I couldn’t hack another summer of non-stop cold and rain so I hassled God for oh.. about 3 months- and the next summer was pleasant, warm and sunny.Of course I don’t imagine for one minute that God changed the weather for the country just for me but I’m sure it happened because I wasn’t the only one requesting better weather.Others must have being doing the same.
Try it.
